Thanks Bunker for this suggestion...I hope it is helpful.

Below is a list of possible items to include in your first aid kit for 3 different scenarios. While this list is far from perfect and won’t be appropriate for all families, it is a starting point. Please feel free to add on items that you feel would be appropriate. I won’t go into the med’s that you would need as those are individual items..but remember to keep your prescriptions filled and try to have extra eye glasses/contacts and cleaning solution


#1) Basic Family SHTF kit
• First aid manual
• Activated charcoal
• Old fashion thermometer (don’t want to need it and not have batteries for digital
• Tweezers and a pair of sharp scissors
• Magnifying glass
• Latex gloves
• Safety pins
• Sterilized needle
• Antibacterial ointment
• Hydrocortisone cream
• Rubbing alcohol 1 bottle
• Hydrogen peroxide 1 bottle
• Nasal aspirator bulb syringe
• Variety of adhesive bandage strips
• Gauze rolls, sterile 2” and 4”
• Gauze pads, sterile 2x2 and 4x4
• Adhesive tape
• Cotton pads and cotton swabs
• Heating pad
• Hot-water bottle and cover
• Ice pack instant
• Eye wash/eye drops
• Plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated


#2) "Bug out Bag" kit
• First aid manual
• Activated charcoal
• Old fashion thermometer (don’t want to need it and not have batteries for digital
• Tweezers and a pair of sharp scissors
• Magnifying glass
• Latex gloves
• Safety pins
• Sterilized needles
• Antibacterial ointment
• Hydrocortisone cream
• Rubbing alcohol
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Nasal aspirator bulb syringe
• Variety of adhesive bandage strips
• Gauze eye patches
• Gauze rolls, sterile 2” and 4”
• Gauze pads, sterile 2x2 and 4x4
• Kerlex, Large Gauze
• Adhesive tape
• Coban wrap 4” and 6”
• Cotton pads and cotton swabs
• Eye wash/eye drops
• Ice pack instant
• Hot packs instant
• Super glue, small bottle makes for great emergency sutures
• Mylar emergency blanket...enough for everyone in your family
• Splitting materials
• Sodium Chloride Sterile Water 1000ml bottles
• Burn Gel
• Box small trash bags
• Plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated

This list of course would make use of purchasing items in bulk
#3) small community kit for 3 to 6 families.

• Magnifying glass
• Latex gloves assorted sizes
• Safety pins
• Sterilized needles
• Antibacterial ointment
• Hydrocortisone cream
• Rubbing alcohol
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Nasal aspirator bulb syringe
• Variety of adhesive bandage strips
• Gauze eye patches
• Gauze rolls, sterile 2” 4” and 6”
• Gauze pads, sterile 2x2, 4x4 and 5x9
• Kerlex, Large Gauze
• Trauma dressing
• Adhesive tape
• Coban wrap 2” 4” and 6”
• Plain white sheets (extra bandages, slings, etc
• Cotton pads and cotton swabs
• Eye wash/eyedrops
• Ice pack instant
• Hot packs instant
• Super glue, small bottles makes for great emergency sutures
• Mylar emergency blanket
• Wool blankets
• Large rolls plastic
• Several rolls duct tape
• Splitting materials wide assortment
• Sodium Chloride (Sterile Water 1000ml bottles)
• Burn Gel
• Burn Dressings 12X12
• Burn Blanket 60x96
Towels and washloths
• Small trash bags
• Large contractor trash bags
• Regular bleach
• Plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated
